The House Red

Recently acquired in house reds including Japanese Batik courtesy of VM and TN, new oxblood striker marble picked up at The Ark, vintage Eastern European(?) hemp ribbon ( my family is crazy for ribbon, sometimes  more than the gift itself, often ironing and pressing before storing for the next year when it most likely will go back to another family member. I have seen some ribbon passed back and forth for years.) Also on the list of reds, NMc's hand made heart lavender infused weights/ eye pillows, and finally the return of VM's repaired hand knit red hemp pillow.

When in Laguna

When in Laguna, do as I do, eat at The Stand. A venerable Vegan institution for as long as I can remember, little has changed including my affection for the banana date shake with cashew milk.

Franciscan Manzanita

San Francisco plant thought extinct for nearly 70 years found near Golden Gate

SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco native plant thought extinct by botanists has been discovered near the Golden Gate Bridge.
The last, wild Franciscan Manzanita was believed to have perished in the 1940s when the city cemeteries where it grew were moved south to allow for neighborhood expansion.
But when construction crews recently cleared eucalyptus trees in the city's Presidio area, it exposed the only specimen known to exist in the wild.
Botanist Daniel Gluesenkamp spotted the manzanita shrub as he drove over the Golden Gate Bridge. He later visited the site to confirm his sighting — the first in nearly 70 years.
The Wild Equity Institute has filed a petition with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the plant under the Endangered Species Act.

Jack Frost

Cold weather at our CSA Farm is proving to be the most harmful element in the destruction of crops. In our newsletter we were informed that sometimes farmers will spray the crops with water, sealing the crop in ice cocoon, preserving some temperature. The image above is from a previous frost. Say a prayer for your favorite vegetable....
