Ettore Sottsass
Ettore Sottsass was one of the leading members of the Memphis Group founded in 1981 with a group of recently graduated designers and journalist Barbara Radice as public relations/art director. The group's main aim was to revive Radical Design. The products created by the Memphis group included limited production creations of unusual objects and functional designs. Most products featured plastic laminate surfaces, bright colours and bold patterns.

although I respect Sotsass and the other members of Memphis I could never understand their sculptures and how people were insanely dedicated to them. (They) Just seems like a leftover from the '80's I don't care to rehash although most of what I haven't cared to rehash is back with a vengence. Love the blog are you in sf?
ReplyDeleteYes, I am in SF, I mostly look at the Sotsass drawings, super simple..., also, simple display strategies, but effective.. I am on my way to Halcyon Days....
ReplyDeleteK although i know what you meen i do believe that the memphis group was formed in the 1970's to fight back against the dull black and brown colours of the 1970's they wanted to create designs to look futuristic and colourful
ReplyDeleteThank you for that! I was researching porcelain and found just this post!
