Today July 11th is Paul Pena Day in San Francisco. Paul was the subject of the documentary Genghis Blues (see this film), in which he learns traditional Tuvan throat singing by listening to his short wave radio in his apartment. He then travels to Tuva to perform in the triennial throat singing festival. In 1999 the Mayors office of San Francisco decreed every July 11th to be Paul Pena Day.
