Back in the day, NMc and I used to make some money by working at a crafts festival, demonstrating ceramics and printmaking. While continuing to mine the archives, we came across a few remnants from those summer days.

Sunday Food

A few more images from the garden today. Enter the Peaches and Adriatic Figs, along with two varieties of Zucchini. The Peach and Fig trees have been on the grounds here for many years (read 40), and are shared with the neighbors. The wonderful Heirloom Tomatoes were not grown by us, but rather our CSA farm Terra Firma. San Francisco can be a difficult climate to grow Heirlooms, and as the author of andahalf of Los Angeles made me jealous of the year round possibilities of said Heirlooms in his climate, I figured a beautiful image might be a suitable tasty revenge.

Paul Pena Day

Today July 11th is Paul Pena Day in San Francisco. Paul was the subject of the documentary Genghis Blues (see this film), in which he learns traditional Tuvan throat singing by listening to his short wave radio in his apartment. He then travels to Tuva to perform in the triennial throat singing festival. In 1999 the Mayors office of San Francisco decreed every July 11th to be Paul Pena Day.

In Praise of Cilantro

If you love Cilantro as much as we do, and if you have as much as we seem to have this year, may I suggest this recipe for Cilantro Cream. It is great for setting a snack off, or as an addition to dinner. Enjoy summer style...

8 ounce cream cheese (soften)
1 tblsp sour cream
1 7 ounce tomatillo salsa ( less if desired)
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp garlic powder
1 bunch fresh cilantro
1 tblsp fresh lime juice

all in food processor until creamy

Clusters

NMc's new handmade ear clusters. In a world attracted to symmetry, it is nice to see two distinct bursts on the same beautiful head.
