Greetings from the Cranbrook Academy of Art In Bloomfield Hills Michigan, where I will be giving lecture tonight at 6pm. Cranbrook is a National Historic Landmark designed by Eliel Sarrinen in the 1940's. It's a stunningly beautiful campus, surrounded by nothing but forests, gardens and homes built around the Cranbrook House designed by Albert Kahn in 1908. I also happen to be here during the fall foliage (images soon). Hopefully more images to come of some of the interiors.

Point Break Live

Best of all, the starring role of Keanu will be selected at random from the audience each night, with the lucky winner reading their entire script off of cue-cards. Collectors Beware

From The New Yorker
King, a professor at Santa Barbara, has spent decades collecting things that nobody else would want: food packages and labels (he has about eighteen thousand), illustrations snipped from old dictionaries (seven thousand), linings of "security" envelopes (eight hundred patterns), "the mute, meager, practically valueless object, like a sea-washed spigot, its mouth stoppered by a stone." What makes this book, bred of a midlife crisis, extraordinary is the way King weaves his autobiography into the account of his collection, deftly demonstrating that the two stories are essentially one. "I lost and found myself in remote topical aisles of scholarship-wreck," he says of his hours in Yale’s library, reading the most obscure books he could find. His hard-won self-awareness gives his disclosures an intensity that will likely resonate with all readers, even those whose collections of nothing contain nothing at all.

Dodger Blue

Since tonight marks the beginning of the Los Angeles Dodgers playoff run, I dug up some old in house portraits of the 1982 team, as depicted by artist Nicholas Volpe. These are a few of my favorite players from that year. Similar to a baseball card, each 8.5 x 11 portrait contains the players stats on the reverse. I'll take Dodger Blue over Yves Kein Blue anyday!
